Dead End Desperation: Friday

"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." 1 Peter 5:7

If you are a parent of a young child, you are no stranger to the question, “Why?” This question often arises when parents ask their kids to do something or they need help understanding why they have to do something. I’m sure you have found yourself responding to kids at least a time or two with “Because I said so!” This statement reminds your child that you are their parent who always acts in their best interest, and you can be trusted. But, like young children, we, too, find ourselves asking God, “Why?” Scripture answers this question by reminding us of His character as our Heavenly Father who cares for us.

So many passages of Scripture remind us of God’s character as our Heavenly Father who cares about us. One of those passages is 1 Peter 5:7. In this passage of Scripture, Peter reminds readers of God’s character. He writes, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.” In this verse, Peter reminds us that God cares deeply for each one of us. As our perfect Heavenly Father, He loves and cares deeply for us. This means that we can trust Him in all situations. Because He cares for us, we can trust Him when He calls us to do difficult things we do not understand. We can trust that He has our best interest in mind.

As you think about your life and where God currently has you, remember this promise in 1 Peter. God cares for you. He is with you and walking with you and will turn every situation for your good and His glory. This is why we can trust Him and live faithfully even when things are confusing or do not make sense. Will you trust your Heavenly Father, who loves and cares for you?

Moving toward action

Because God is our perfect Heavenly Father, He can be trusted. He cares for us. That is why we can faithfully follow and obey Him. Memorize 1 Peter 5:7. Let this verse remind you when you want to ask, “Why?” Let it encourage you to obey, even when you do not understand.

Going Deeper

1 Peter 1:1-14 (NLT)

"Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,

To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood:

Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance."
