Greater Than Week 2 Saturday

Then Jesus said, "Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

"I can do this." "I've got this." These are common sayings that we hear from everyone around us. Society challenges you and me to live quite independently. Many of us do not like asking for help. The truth is, we will often find ourselves in over our heads and needing help, and we must take the time to ask. This includes asking God for help. In times of fear, we must let go and turn to God, knowing that He is perfectly able to take care of us.

Jesus called each of us to turn to Him rather than rely on our strength in Matthew 11. "Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest" (verse 28). Jesus knew that we all become weary and carry heavy burdens. This often happens when we are trying to fix everything and take care of everything on our own. When we are scared and fearful, we often try to do everything we can to take care of the situation without turning to God. Ultimately, this will make us weary. It is exhausting. We will reach burnout very quickly. Many of us already have.

Jesus taught that there is a better way than running around relying on our power. That way is running to Him. When we face fear and try to take care of our situations solely on our power, we become weary, but when we turn to God, we receive rest because He will take care of us, and we can depend on Him.

Are you facing fear, solely relying on your own power to take care of your situation? Turn to God. You are not alone, and you do not have to face the situation on your own. Jesus is walking with you, and He offers peace and rest. Turn to Him today.

MOVING TOWARD ACTION

As you think about your fear, are you trying to handle it and face your situation on your own? It is time to turn to God. We must let go and trust Him to take care of every situation we are facing, including the situations we are fearful about. But before we can let go, we have to realize that we have been trying to face our battles on our own. This understanding is your first step in letting go and trusting God to take care of you.

GOING DEEPER

Read Matthew 11:25-30(NLT)

At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way!

“My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
