My Name Is: Week 3 - Friday

For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone. Psalm 91:11-12

Let me tell you about the time I saved a person's life. I was in Costa Rica on a mission trip with my youth group. Part of our duty on this trip was to serve children in Costa Rica by hosting a camp for them. One of these children was a tiny little girl who could not have been older than four years old. One day at camp, our group had to cross over a bridge that was very wobbly and looked like it was about to fall apart. Beneath the bridge was a river. While we were walking on the bridge, suddenly the tiny little girl, no older than four, became unsteady on the bridge and almost fell through it. Instantly, I grabbed her and held her the rest of the way as we crossed the bridge. Not to brag (okay, maybe to brag just a little bit), but I saved her life that day. I protected her from falling through that bridge. If I, an imperfect human being, am concerned about protecting people I do not know very well, how much more is God concerned about protecting His people? Today, we are going to see that God often sends His angels to protect us when we are in danger.

As the God of Angel Armies, we find in Psalm 91 that one of the things God commands angels to do is protect His people. These verses in Psalm 91 teach us that God will call His angels to protect believers when they face danger so that not even their feet will be harmed. This revelation should bring us hope, peace, and confidence in God, knowing that He is with us and His angels are protecting us. This does not mean that no harm will ever befall us; however, it does mean that we can live our lives knowing that God is in control and that He even sends His angels to protect us. He is the God of Angel Armies, and his angels are with you, protecting you as you go.

Are you living in the confidence that God's angels are with you, protecting you throughout your life? It's easy to know what Scripture says about God sending His angels to protect His people, but it is an entirely different thing to believe it for yourself. Today, live in the peace and confidence that comes with knowing that God's angels are with you, protecting you as you go.

Moving Toward Action

Are you facing a difficult situation that is so bleak, you are wondering how you are going to make it through? Remember today that God is the God of Angel Armies, and part of the role of angels is to protect God's people. Maybe God is calling you to do something that seems risky. Take confidence that God is with you and His angels will protect you as you obey God, even when it seems risky. In your journal today, praise God, the God of Angel Armies, for sending His angels to protect you.

Going Deeper

Read Psalm 91:1-12 (NLT)

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
    will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
    he is my God, and I trust him.
For he will rescue you from every trap
    and protect you from deadly disease.
He will cover you with his feathers.
    He will shelter you with his wings.
    His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
    nor the arrow that flies in the day.
Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
    nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
Though a thousand fall at your side,
    though ten thousand are dying around you,
    these evils will not touch you.
Just open your eyes,
    and see how the wicked are punished.

If you make the Lord your refuge,
    if you make the Most High your shelter,
no evil will conquer you;
    no plague will come near your home.
For he will order his angels
    to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands
    so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
