Wake-Up Call Week 6 Wednesday

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever." And the one sitting on the throne said, "Look, I am making everything new!" And then he said to me, "Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true." Revelation 21:4-5

In my opinion, there are two types of people in the world: One type is able to reign in their emotions and control when the tears come and when they stay back, and the other type is unable to hold back tears when sadness comes over them. I fall under the second category. I cannot hold my tears when sadness comes, and I feel embarrassed about it sometimes. Regardless of what type of category we fall under, we all face unimaginably hard times. This is just a part of being a human being in this life. With all of the sorrows facing our world, I find hope that God will wipe away pain, sorrow, sin, death, and goodbyes one day. It is going to be an incredible day, and I cannot wait.

The book of Revelation teaches us about what will happen in the end times. Specifically, chapter 21 teaches us about the day when Jesus will return. According to this chapter, a voice from heaven will say, "Look, God's home is now among His people! He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them" (verse 3). Some of the most beautiful words in Scripture follow. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever" (verse 4). Can you imagine? This past year, especially, it seems that people have experienced more pain, sorrow, death, and heartbreak than anyone has expected, teaching us that things are certainly not as they should be in the world. One day, however, Jesus is going to return, and when He returns, He will make everything right. There will be no more tears, no pandemics, no death, no heartbreak, no loneliness, no fear, no anxiety or depression, no sickness or cancer. Jesus will make everything right.

Jesus Himself said in Revelation 21:5: "Look, I am making everything new!" What an incredible moment this will be when He makes everything right! When life is hard, and you think you could not possibly cry more tears from the pain you are facing, may you find deep comfort in the fact that one day, everything will be made new, and Jesus will make everything, and I do mean everything, right.

MOVING TOWARD ACTION

Pull out your journal, and spend some time thinking about the new heaven and new earth that Scripture promises. What are you looking forward to most? What people are you going to run to say "hello" to? After journaling about these things, thank God that this world is not our home. Thank Him, yet again, for heaven.

GOING DEEPER

Read Revelation 21:1-7(NLT)

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
