First Steps: Baptism

Baptism: Day 3

Day-3 // Immersion in Water

One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized Him in the Jordan River. As Jesus came up out of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove. Mark 1:9-10

As a church, we practice a form of baptism called baptism by immersion. When we baptize by immersion, the whole person is dunked into the water. We practice this form of baptism because it is what we see modeled in Scripture. Did you know that Jesus was baptized? He was baptized by His relative, a man named John. We know that because Jesus is recorded as coming “out of the water” that He was baptized by immersion. If Jesus Himself took time to be baptized, it stands to reason that we, too, should follow His example and be baptized by immersion. For Jesus, being baptized was an example for others to follow and a marker of His ministry on earth. You see, after being baptized, He began His ministry on earth of bringing people to Him. Baptism is an important step for you in your life, too, as you seek to follow Him. He has big plans for you, and this is only the beginning of what He will do in your life.

Prayer: Ask God for boldness to follow Him and take the important step of baptism.
