“Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.” Acts 2:38
The first thing that we are called to do after we believe in Jesus is to get baptized. In Peter’s first message that he preached after being filled with the Holy Spirit, he explained the importance of baptism to the crowd listening. Before being baptized, we have to come to the place where we understand that we have done something wrong, and then we are called to repent. To repent means we acknowledge our sin and tell God we are sorry for the ways we have lived. After believing in God and repenting from our sin, the next step that we should follow is baptism. Because of this, we don’t baptize little babies or young children at our church. We wait for them to take this faith step on their own. We encourage those who've been baptized as an infant to retake this step as their own act of obedience. If you were baptized as a baby, your parents made the decision for you. Being baptized again is your opportunity to take this step as your own personal decision. By repenting from your sin, you are turning from your old way of life, which was marked by sin and death, and turning toward new life in Christ, marked by life and a relationship with God.
Prayer: Spend time today telling God that you believe in Him. Tell Him that you believe that Jesus Christ is His Son who came to earth and died to save you from your sins. Then, confess to God the sins that you have committed, and say the words, “I’m sorry.”
