First Steps: Baptism

Baptism: Day 5

Day-5 // New Life (Get Rid of Sin)

For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins. Colossians 2:12-13

After giving our lives to Christ, the Bible teaches that although we were dead because of our sins, we are now alive with Christ. In other words, our sin had us on a path leading directly toward death and separation from God, but salvation in Christ Jesus redirects our path and leads to life with God forever. This means that we do not have to live in our sin anymore. Yes, as long as we are living on this earth, we will still be tempted to sin, but we have the power, through God, to choose not to give in to that temptation. This does not mean we will be perfect and sinless; in fact, as long as we are living on this earth, we will never be perfect. It does, however, mean that we are not left alone in our sin and that we have the strength and power to turn away from sin when we are tempted. It also means that we are called to live lives that strive to leave our sinful behavior behind and become more like Christ. After all, the new life we have in Christ is so much better than our old lives marked by sin. I urge you, my friend, do not settle for a life full of sinful behavior when God has something so much better for you.

Prayer: Tell God the sins you are currently struggling with. He’s not going to judge you; He wants to help you fight against them. After telling Him these things, ask Him for boldness and strength to turn away from your old life full of sin and turn to Him and the new life He has for you.
