First Steps: Baptism

Baptism: Day 7

Day-7 // Names

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19

Here we have some of the last words Jesus said to His disciples before He left earth and went back to heaven. At our church, we follow this model and baptize in the name of Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When we baptize in the name of God the Father, we are reminded that there is a God who created everything who has great love for people. We also acknowledge that He has a plan for our lives. Baptizing in the name of the Son, Jesus, points to what Jesus did on the cross to save us from the wrong things we have done. It also points to His authority in our life as Lord, or master. We baptize in the name of the Holy Spirit as a reminder that we were not left alone when Jesus left earth and went back to heaven. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come to teach us more about God and convict us of where we fall short of His standard. As we baptize in the name of God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we are acknowledging the roles that God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit have played in our faith and will continue to play in our faith. Spend some time reflecting on how God has worked and moved in your life today. He loves you so much and stopped at nothing when it came to having a relationship with you.

Prayer:

Tell God one reason you are thankful for Him today. As you pray, ask God for His plan for your life. Thank Jesus for dying on the cross for your sins. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you as you follow Him. If you’re ready, commit to Him that you will be baptized as soon as possible!
