Best of 2022: Friday

"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10

What is the best thing you have ever created? Maybe you wrote a beautiful piece of poetry. Perhaps you knitted a scarf or handbag. Maybe you are an architect and you created the most incredible design plan for a client’s home. Whatever it is that you have made, I am willing to bet that you are very proud of that thing. You may have even used the word “masterpiece” to describe your creation. Did you know that God used that word to describe you? You, my friend, are His masterpiece. The question is, will you believe this truth?

The apostle Paul explained just how special and unique each human being is in Ephesians 2. This is what He said: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (verse 10). This verse makes it clear: we are a work of art. We were not created randomly or thoughtlessly. God made each one of us with intentionality and purpose. We are a His prized creation.

Not only were we created on purpose as God’s creation, we were also created for a purpose. Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:10 that we were created “to do the good things He planned for us long ago.” This means that from the beginning of our lives, God had a plan and purpose for us to do good.

When is the last time you thought about the truth that you are God’s masterpiece? Maybe it has been a long time. Maybe you have never truly thought of yourself in this way. Friends, it is time for us to believe what Ephesians 2:10 says about us. Let’s make having this mindset a goal for us in 2023. When this happens, we are able to embrace our purpose that God has given to us to do good.

Moving toward action

Do you believe you are God’s masterpiece? Do your actions and the things you say give proof that you believe this truth? If the answer is “yes,” how does believing this truth that you are God’s masterpiece impact you on a regular basis? If the answer is “no,” Why not? How would your life be different if you believed what God says about you is actually true? What is one step you can take today to begin to see yourself

Ephesians 2:10-18 (NLT)

"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

11 Don’t forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders. You were called “uncircumcised heathens” by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts. 12 In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. 13 But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ.

14 For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. 15 He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. 16 Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death.

17 He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near. 18 Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us."
