Dead End Desperation Week 6: Saturday

"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." 1 Peter 5:7

Perhaps one of the most tender aspects of God’s character is how much He cares for His people. After all, He is the God of the universe. He is deeply involved in every single thing happening all over the world, yet He still cares about each one of us, specifically and individually. Because He cares, we can turn to Him about anything and everything that matters to us. As it has been said, “If it matters to us, it matters to God.”

Peter writes about God’s care for humanity in 1 Peter 5:7. The verse begins by saying, “Give all your worries and cares to God.” Let’s pause here for a moment and acknowledge what a big task we are given in this verse. I do not know about you, but I have a lot of worries that I would like to let go of. The difficulty is that I have difficulty letting go of my worries. Can you relate? The word give is pretty definite, isn’t it? When you give something to someone, they have ownership of it now. It no longer belongs to you. Giving our worries and cares to God means that they belong to Him now; He takes them from us. The verse continues explaining why we should give God all our worries and cares. Peter writes, “For he cares about you” (verse 7). Do not miss the beautiful truth from this Scripture: God cares about you. He cares about the things you care about. He cares when you feel concerned and worried. He cares when you are happy, sad, and everything in between. Because He cares, you can give Him your concerns, burdens, and worries, and He will take them from you.

What is beautiful is that God cares not only about us but everyone on the planet. Every person we interact with is someone He cares deeply for. When we interact with them, we show His love and compassion for them.

Friends, God cares. If you have ever doubted His love and care for you, look back at 1 Peter 5:7. If you need a reminder to show His love and care to the people around you, look back at 1 Peter 5:7. We do not have a God who is distant, cold, or unfeeling. We have a God who cares, and that makes all the difference.

Moving toward action

Memorize 1 Peter 5:7. Let this Scripture remind you that God cares deeply about every detail of your life, big and small. Then, as you go throughout your day, find someone to share this verse with to encourage them. You never know the difference this truth could make in another person’s life.

Going Deeper

1 Peter 5:1-14 (NLT)

"And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share in his glory when he is revealed to the whole world. As a fellow elder, I appeal to you: 2 Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. 3 Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. 4 And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor.

5 In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for

“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”

6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers[b] all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

10 In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11 All power to him forever! Amen.
