One Life Curriculum Week 1: Saturday

*These next 4 weeks, we are taking a pause in our usual sermon-based curriculum for you to take time to review our One Life curriculum. We hope this will encourage you and equip you to take steps in sharing your faith with the people around you!

Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Psalm 105:1

When you find something that is good or life-changing, it is easy to tell other people. For instance, if you eat at a new restaurant and are blown away by the food and service, you are going to share it with all your friends. If you find your new favorite coffee drink, you have to take one to your co-worker who also loves a good cup of coffee. If you become part of a church that has dramatically changed your life, you find it very easy to invite others.

When we embrace the greatness of God and marvel at His glory, we are prompted to make Him known in the world. When King David was moving the Ark of the Covenant into the city of Jerusalem, he wrote this song that is contained in Psalm 105. It is a calling to not just give thanks, but to make the name of the Lord known in the world. The hope would be that through our thanksgiving and heart of praise that the nations would hear of the goodness of God. We find even in the Old Testament, God’s heart to draw all of humanity back to Himself. He wanted to fix what was broken and wanted people to find their real purpose. This was first found in the construction of a temple that was meant to draw people into the greatness of God. People would come to Jerusalem to see the temple that was built to the one and only true God. This was the way people would encounter the living God.

When Jesus walked the earth, He shared that a time would come when people wouldn’t worship in any specific location but rather that we would worship in Spirit and truth (John 4:23). He was pointing to the fact that when we are filled with the Holy Spirit and made new after receiving the truth that we become a part of a living temple (Ephesians 2:21-22). We now reflect His greatness and make Him known no matter where we are located. God was sending this message out of His greatness, rather than relying on humanity to come to Jerusalem to see the temple. We now become messengers that can proclaim the greatness of God. That is both through our own story of life change, and the power of God that is at work in our lives daily.

Does your life reflect God’s goodness and grace? Is your life a living testimony that points people to Jesus?

Moving toward action

God created us to worship Him. He prepared and put you on this earth and surrounded you with glimpses of His glory so you would one day turn back to Him and offer praise. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we become a living temple that honors God. When you come to church this weekend, be prepared to praise God with everything that you have. Don’t limit your praises though to just weekend worship. Have a constant heart of gratitude that shares the good things that God has done for you to those who are far from God. Who can you invite to come to church with you this weekend to worship with us?

Going Deeper

Psalm 105:1-8 (NLT)

1 "Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness.
Let the whole world know what he has done.
2 Sing to him; yes, sing his praises.
Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.
3 Exult in his holy name;
rejoice, you who worship the Lord.
4 Search for the Lord and for his strength;
continually seek him.
5 Remember the wonders he has performed,
his miracles, and the rulings he has given,
6 you children of his servant Abraham,
you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones.

7 He is the Lord our God.
His justice is seen throughout the land.
8 He always stands by his covenant—
the commitment he made to a thousand generations."
