Sagebrush 25th Anniversary: Thursday

Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6

Many today believe that there are multiple ways to be saved. Some believe that by doing good deeds, they can earn their salvation. Others subscribe to other religions and believe that worshiping the false God of their religion will earn their salvation. The truth is that Scripture reveals that there is one way to salvation, and that is through faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus made it clear that salvation is only available through Him in John 14. In this chapter, He told his disciples not to worry even though He was able to leave them and return to Heaven because there is more than enough room in His Father's house (verse 2). When He spoke about His Father's house, He was talking about Heaven. He told them that He was going to prepare a place for all of them soon (verse 2). As Jesus was teaching this truth to His disciples, Philip spoke up and said, "We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?" (verse 5). Jesus responded, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me" (verse 6). The way to have eternal life in Heaven one day is through Jesus and Jesus alone. There is no other way. Good works will not get us to Heaven. A false god will not get anyone to Heaven. Believing in Jesus is the only way to Heaven. He is the only hope.

Unfortunately, many people have been deceived into thinking that there are other ways to Heaven. They think they can earn salvation by being good people. They look to a false god for salvation. Some believe that there are multiple ways to salvation. There is only one way to salvation, and that is through Jesus Christ. This, my friends, is the message of hope that we get to share with the world around us. We get to share the truth with people around us that they do not have to strive for salvation. They do not have to look to a false god for salvation. All they have to do is look to Jesus. This is the best news that they will ever hear. Will you spread this good news to the people around you?

Moving Toward Action

Memorize John 14:6. Let it be a reminder to you that Jesus is the only way to salvation. Apart from Him, there is no hope. When we turn to Him, there is always hope. Look for opportunities today to share this verse with someone who is in need of the hope that Christ has to offer.

Going Deeper

John 14:1-14

1“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.[a] If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”

5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.[c] From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”

9 Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. 11 Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.

12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!
