One of the questions that was answered during the weekend message was, "Will we be bored in Heaven?" Those who wonder if Heaven will be boring mistakenly think of Heaven as a place where people will float around without a purpose. The truth is, Heaven will be anything but boring. Heaven will be a place of unimaginable beauty, where we will experience profound joy and a deep sense of purpose. When we experience eternity in Heaven with God forever, there will be no place we would rather be.
The Psalmist of Psalm 81 celebrated the joy that can be found in the presence of God. He wrote in this Psalm, "How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of Heaven's Armies" (verse 1). He continued, saying, "I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord" (verse 2). The Psalmist's great longing and desire was to be in the presence of God. As he wrote about being in God’s presence, David said, “A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else!” (verse 10). Just one day in God’s presence, the Psalmist proclaimed, is better than any day anywhere else. There is no other place that will match the glory and joy of being in God’s presence. He took it a step further, saying, "I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory" (verses 10-11). There is no better place to be in the presence of God. As the Psalmist wrote about the joy of being in God's presence, he concluded, "The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right" (verse 11). Take a moment to reflect on this truth. God withholds not one good thing from His people. What a promise we have to claim!
My friend, there is no better place to be than in God’s presence. We will experience the full joy of being in His presence when we spend eternity with Him forever. There will be no boredom or wishing we could be anywhere else. We will only ever want to be in His presence, and the best part is, we will never have to be anywhere else.
Take time today to pray to God. Pray the words found in Psalm 84:10. Praise God for the eternity that we will experience with Him forever, where we will find the deepest fulfillment and satisfaction in Him. After all, he alone can truly satisfy.
1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
2 I long, yes, I faint with longing
to enter the courts of the Lord.
With my whole being, body and soul,
I will shout joyfully to the living God.
3 Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young
at a place near your altar,
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!
4 What joy for those who can live in your house,
always singing your praises. Interlude
5 What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord,
who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
6 When they walk through the Valley of Weeping,
it will become a place of refreshing springs.
The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.
7 They will continue to grow stronger,
and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.
8 O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, hear my prayer.
Listen, O God of Jacob. Interlude
9 O God, look with favor upon the king, our shield!
Show favor to the one you have anointed.
10 A single day in your courts
is better than a thousand anywhere else!
I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God
than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory.
The Lord will withhold no good thing
from those who do what is right.
12 O Lord of Heaven’s Armies,
what joy for those who trust in you.
