1. What comes to mind when you think of the word worship?
2. Read Matthew 15:8-9. What do these verses teach us about worship?
Matthew 15:8-9
8 ‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
9 Their worship is a farce,
for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’”
3. What do you think it looks like when someone worships God “with their lips” but has a heart that is far from Him?
4. Read Joshua 6:19-20, verses that describe the Israelites capturing the city of Jericho, a land that God had promised them. How did the Israelites’ worship help them to overcome their enemies in these verses?

19 Everything made from silver, gold, bronze, or iron is sacred to the Lord and must be brought into his treasury.”
20 When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.
5. What do these verses tell us about how we can defeat the evil one?

MOVING FORWARD
One way to set our minds and hearts on God is to listen to worship music. We have a Spotify playlist filled with our favorite worship songs. As a group, make a plan to listen to that playlist every day throughout the week. Notice how focusing on these songs and worshiping God impacts your group. Talk about this next time during group.
