Forgiveness: Week 1

BREAK THE ICE

What is the silliest grudge that you have ever carried or what is the longest you have ever given a person in your family the silent treatment?

SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

1. What are some things that are easy for you to forgive? How about hard things to forgive?

2.Read Romans 5:6-8. How do these verses impact how you see God?

Romans 5:6-8

6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

3. Why can’t we earn God’s forgiveness, based on these verses?

4. How does constantly thinking of your past sin affect you? What are some things that keep people from accepting God's forgiveness?

5.Do you find it personally easy or difficult to accept God’s forgiveness? Why or why not?

6. What is one way this week that you can live like someone who has been forgiven?

MOVING FORWARD

In the message, we talked about 4 steps to embracing God’s forgiveness:

  1. Realize your sin.
  2. Repent from your sin.
  3. Receive forgiveness.
  4. Respond to God because of His forgiveness.

Which one of these steps do you find yourself at today? What area do you need to grow in. Share it with your group. When everyone has shared, pray together. Thank God for the forgiveness He has shown you, and ask God to help each one of you live in the freedom of His forgiveness.
