BREAK THE ICE

What do you think most people think about when they think about heaven?

SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS
1. What are some reasons you think people question where they will spend eternity?

2. Which of the roadblocks that cause people to wonder where they will spend eternity do you struggle with the most: basing your relationship with God off of your feelings, you wonder if you did it right when you gave your life to Christ, or you are trying to earn your way to heaven on your own? Why?

 

3. Read Roman 10:9. What are the facts this verse teaches about where we will spend eternity? How does this give us confidence when we wonder if we prayed the right words or did the right thing when we gave our life to Jesus?

 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

4. When was a time when your feelings let you down. Why are our feelings not a good basis when think about where we will spend eternity?

5. Read Ephesians 2:8. Why is it tempting to base our salvation on the good things we have done? Why doesn’t this work?

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

6. Read Romans 10:9. Why is making a commitment to follow Jesus a critical step in our relationship with Jesus?

7. How does what we have studied in the Bible today give you hope as you think about where we will spend eternity?

MOVING FORWARD

Take a few minutes to think about the three steps we talked about to have confidence that we will spend eternity with Christ: admit you are a sinner in need of a Savior, believe that Jesus is the Son of God who rose from the grave, and commit your life to Jesus. Which step do you see yourself at now? Share this with your group. After everyone has shared, pray together. Pray that God will give you all courage to take the steps God is leading you towards. Your small group leader is available if you have more questions or if you would like to take a step in your faith.
