Becoming a Disciple - Week 4, Day 2

Dynamic Disciples Wanted (True Discipleship)

Jesus was the real deal. Authentic. What you saw was what you got. His word was His bond, and His commitments were rock solid, no compromise. Love was in His words, and forgiveness was in His heart. Serve all, love all. He came into the world to seek and save that which was lost and then entrusted to our care the privilege of following after Him and living for Him. Two thousand years have come and gone, and today like yesterday, Jesus is looking for the real deal in His followers. Jesus is looking for some dynamic disciples. He is looking for those who have the courage and the guts to stand up and stand out for Him. What makes a dynamic disciple dynamic? That’s easy. A dynamic disciple is one who knows the “No’s.”

NO RIVAL.
Christ isn’t the first priority of his life but THE priority of his life. He hasn’t bought into a priority system that says that God is first, then family, then friends, then school, then a job, then whatever else. He has no problem keeping Christ THE priority of his life because following and loving Christ is his only priority. You see, a dynamic disciple lives Matthew 6:33. This dynamite person seeks the kingdom of God first and does what Jesus wants Him to do and realizes if he does that, everything else will fall into place. Everything. Boyfriend/girlfriend/friends/school/future/parents/social life/everything. God is looking for people who love Him and nothing else and hate sin and nothing else. Those rare people have the power to change their world.

NO REFUSAL.
A Dynamic disciple refuses Christ nothing. If Jesus wants him to give up something, that is fine with him because he knows that God will replace what He took away with something even better. He realizes that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father above and that his Heavenly Father loves him more than anyone could possibly love him on earth, so he trusts Him with all of his life and not just part of it. If God wants him to watch what he watches, he knows there is a reason. If God doesn’t want him to date a particular person, he trusts Him even when he is unsure about the direction that God wants him to go.

NO REFUSAL.
If Jesus wants him to talk to someone about Him, then no problem. In fact, it would be an honor. He’s not perfect; he’s just available. He wants to be used by God in the small things and the big. He knows if He tells God no, he won’t be living the great adventure he signed up for, and life won’t be as exciting or as full. He also doesn’t want to let God down. After all, doing what God wants Him to do with his life will only bring about peace, love, joy, and significance. Sounds good, huh? This guy is willing to do or give up anything to follow Jesus.

NO RETREAT.
He doesn’t give up, back down, or turn tail and run when the going gets tough. He realizes that the world is unashamed of their philosophies and their way of life. He also realizes that they are out there pushing that which goes against God’s word and defending their sinful agendas. He wants to stand in the gap for the Lord and proclaim truth where none is to be found. He is not afraid of the opinion of man, for this dynamite disciple seeks to please Christ and Christ alone.

Get the picture? Jesus is looking for young men and women who will get serious about who they love and serve and will count the cost of following Him. Yes, there is a cost to following Jesus. You must die to your selfish ways and desires and choose daily to live your life for Him. You won’t be perfect, just focused. A dynamic disciple makes Satan sweat and, through the power of Christ, impacts their piece of the world.

TIME OUT
1. Is there anything in your life that is more important to you than your relationship with Jesus?

2. Is there anything in your life that is not under the control of the Lord?

3. Is there any type of commitment you have been running from the Lord on?

Look up the following verses and write down some more characteristics of dynamic disciples:
· Luke 14:25-27
· Luke 14:28-30
· Luke 14:33
· Matthew 22:37
· Matthew 22:38-40
Talk to the Lord today and tell Him about the desire you have to be one of His dynamic disciples. Ask Him to use you and ask Him to teach you how to follow Him closer every day.

Memory Verse

"Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter."

Matthew 7:21
