Fruit of the Spirit Pt. 2 - Week 5, Day 2

Day 2: God is a Promise Keeper (God's Character)

Every time you and I see a rainbow it is a reminder of the faithfulness of God. Every time you hold a Bible in your hand it is a reminder of what Jesus said in Matthew 24:35.

“Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.”

No other book has been burned, banned, and outlawed as the Bible. The reason is that there is power in the Word of God. Even when fragments of the Bible are smuggled into prisons, ruthless killers have been transformed into gentle saints. Verses of scripture that have been pieced together have converted entire villages. Even today, people are placed in prison and killed for having the Bible in their possession and yet the Bible has endured and even flourished.

Every time we partake of the Lord’s Supper, the bread and juice are a reminder of the faithfulness of God. The bread represents the broken body of Jesus, and the juice represents the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross so that we might be forgiven of our sins.

Every time we see a person get baptized it is a reminder of the faithfulness of God. Going under the water represents the death of Jesus, and when we come up out of the water it represents the resurrection of Jesus. When we go under the water we are saying that we are dying to our old way of life. When we come up out of the water we are saying that we have found new life in Christ.

God is faithful.

God promises us that nothing can separate us from His love. Romans 8:39

He promises us that He will never leave us or forsake us. Deuteronomy 31:6-8

All things work together for good for those who love Him. Romans 8:28

When you are at the brink of death remember the promises of Jesus.

“There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:2-4 NLT

God is faithful, and what He says He will do, He will do. Sometimes God’s promises are positive and sometimes His promises are disciplinary.

God promised Adam and Eve after they sinned they would never return to the Garden of Eden and they never did.

God promised Moses that because of his temper, he would never enter into the Promised Land and he didn’t.

God promised the children of Israel a land they could call their own, and God led them to the Promised Land.

God promised in the Old Testament that one day a Messiah would come and save the world from their sins. He left us over 300 prophecies that would prove who the Messiah was and Jesus fulfilled every single one.

Jesus promised He would die for our sins. He predicted his death years before it happened and He kept his promise.

Jesus also promised that He would rise again from the dead, and He did.

The Bible promises that if we trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins, that when we die we will be in Heaven with Jesus forever. The Bible also promises if you refuse to ask Jesus into your life you will be eternally separated from God.

Right before Jesus died he promised that he was going to prepare a place for us. Right now Jesus is working on our heavenly home and when we die we will see our promise keeper face to face.

God keeps his word…do you?

Time Out:

Have you ever lied?

Why did you do that?

There are a lot of reasons people use for lying to someone else. Look up the following passages and tell me the reason that person lied.

Matthew 26:69-75: Peter lied to _________________________.

John 18:38-30: The Pharisee’s lied because they wanted to ____________ Jesus.

John 8:44: When we lie who are we most like?

Proverbs 12:22: What does God think of a liar?

Always tell the truth in love. Don’t be a liar. What you say you will do and what you do need to match up every single time.

“So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us."

Hebrews 6:18
