One Life Curriculum Week 2 Study

*These next 3 weeks, we are taking a pause in our usual sermon-based curriculum for your group to review our One Life curriculum. We hope this will encourage your group to take steps in sharing your faith with the people around you!

The idea of sharing your faith in Jesus might sound terrifying. It might be as awkward as a middle school dance where the girls are on one side and the boys are on the other. No one wants to make a move to get close to those who are separated. At times, we have the same fear of closing the gap between this lost world and us. Recognizing that there is a problem and leaning to God for help to ease these fears is critical in making a difference. It may seem daunting to you, but it doesn't have to. It starts with just a walk across the room, street, or office and making a friend. This study is all about building intentional relationships with those who are lost.

What were your middle school dances like? What was your favorite song that they played during that time?

1. Have each group member take a look at their final list of five people they have committed to praying for and reaching out to. What can you do to build an intentional relationship with one or a few of them?

2. Even beyond your list, what are some intentional places where you can put yourself to be a light in this world?

3. How does it make you feel that 90 percent of people in the church have never shared their faith in Jesus? What makes this statistic so high?

4. What are some ways to cultivate curiosity in a relationship to have a conversation about Jesus?

5. Why is it so important that we are patient in this process instead of trying to rush things?

6. Read 1 Peter 3:15-16. Why is our response to be done with gentleness and respect? What is the danger of missing this in a conversation?

1 Peter 3:15-16 (NLT)

"Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. 16 But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ."

7. Read 1 Peter 3:15-16. Why is our response to be done with gentleness and respect? What is the danger of missing this in a conversation?

Come up with a way that you as a group can be a light together. Put yourself in a place where you can make a difference. Go to a restaurant together and pray for your server. Do a service project in our community. Make a difference as a group to cultivate curiosity. Put your best minds together and come up with a way that you can share the light just as a group.

CHALLENGE: Join a club, gym, class, or activity, sign your kids up for a sport or make the most of your job to build intentional relationships.

Galatians 1:10

"Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant."
